So, what makes you think that a commercial product won't also lose
files after months, unless you make it so big that it eats inordinate
amounts of disk space.

Oh, and BTW, I have set up our file server with a dedicated 1tb
partition for all of the VSS copies (for 7 1-3tb partitions).
