Kiddie thing is mostly 2 fold –

Robustness ~insurability

And

Ability of the associated ‘Adult’ to restrict the devices access.

It’s the Apps that introduce complexity or simplicity of operation and
comprehension as in applicable ‘IQ’ and functionality ~ co-ordination of the
fingers and eyes

That’s wot Forms are for with Office type apps- reducing the need for the
operator to have ‘understanding’ of the data management facility.

Get something good and cheap online, but stick to a name brand (Asus, Toshiba,
etc.). They’ll destroy it after a time anyway. And kids are a lot smarter than
you think these days. They’ll have it figured out. The whole “kiddie computer”
thing is silly. I’ve seen 5 year olds operate an adult tablet like a pro.

The first tablet I got for my (now) teenager was a Kindle Fire. It was a great
device, even if a tad pricey compared to the $75 choices out there.

No, just a regular Kindle Fire.

did you use specifically the Kids kindle because one review recommended the

"Buy a Kindle HD Fire 6", then the $30 case and a 2-year Square warranty
instead. You can setup parental controls on the regular Kindle Fire. For the
same price, now I have a fantastic product."

First, let’s call this thing what it really is. This isn’t a Fire designed from
the ground up with children in mind. It is a basic Fire 7 HD with an altered OS
that is tightly integrated into the Free Time Unlimited app, something that can
be added to ANY Fire currently on the market. That’s it. Yes, it comes with a
snazzy case and a longer warranty, but it’s still just a slightly altered Fire
7 underneath it all.

We setup a kids account on an extra Kindle for my 2 year old daughter (turning
3 in April). There's a good selection of fun/educational games and you can
control which apps are accessible under the account. It took about 2 hours for
her to get the hang of turning it on and accessing the games she likes to play.
I don't know the names of the apps off hand but I can get them if interested.
She occassionally clicks on ad banners and such, but there's no way for her to
actually purchase or download new content.

Amazon actually has a kids edition of their fire HD tablet. It's pretty
amazing, purchased one for my niece and she's been able to abuse quite a bit
(as a 3 year old is want to do) still kicking. the two year 'anything kid
related happens we'll replace it' guarantee is better than anything out there.

Hi all,

I'm looking for a tablet for my niece & nephew ( 8 &5), one perquisite is that
it cannot REQUIRE any type of monthly subscription (their parents are quite
frugal lol ).

As it is they are only allowed to play games (on our phones or tablet) on
weekends, but I want it to be more than a toy/game
I want it to be educational as well so I was contemplating a kindle.

Ipad's are definitely out of running , so any other thoughts/suggestions are
welcomed.

thanks
