It can be dangerous. But it's really the only way to get a "real replica".

Lots of people consider me old-fashioned, but I strongly recommend you 
whiteboard/blackboard/whatever, but diagram your test environment and try to 
find all of the places where leakage could occur and remediate them FIRST.

For a quick build of a test domain, completely separate from a production 
domain, would you take a vReplica of the production domain controller, then 
revive that in the test area?  Sounds great, but I have huge trepidation about
