I would not install any 3rd party print server software. I would use the
Standard TCP/IP Ports and setup all my printers that way. Instead of using an
IP address, I would recommend registering the printer's hostname in DNS and
using that hostname in the port. That way if you have to change the IP address
of the printer, just change the address, update DNS and no hassles with having
to change the port.
You can use the HP Webadmin or whatever else you want for mangement and that
sort of stuff. There are other software choices out there for this also, so
whatever you like and works for you.

Subject: WIN2K - HP4550DN PRINTER

Please respond to
"NT System Admin
Issues"
I have a win2k server here at work. We just bought a new HP4550dn printer. I
am wondering the best way to set this up for the access of all the people in
the office. I hear there is print server software that installs on the win2k
server to manage all the printers on the network. I am new to print servers
and want to know what is the best way to set this printer up so that it can
be used by the employees of the office. Should it just stand alone on the
network or have a print server running on win2k. And how hard is this to do?
thanks
