I've had this happen a few times. The particular issue was a BDC that had some corrupt data in it and wasn't reinitializing it's database with the PDC. If people authenticated on the PDC they were fine, but if it went to the PDC they got the password error. I haven't found a resolution other than to unplug the machine. :) I've been a little busy hammering down my wireless doors. If you find something, I'd love to hear it.
