I understand what you are saying... I thought that the software did that, I know it gives a report when you do the "replace" which can be saved to a file... Hmm. I have to play arouns withmy copy of it, I guess ;)

What I really need to do is something of a dir, but look into the files and only report a file name that has this text in it. Then give me a list of the names and save to a file or allow me to redirect the output to a file name.

You can get a free albeit restricted copy of search & replace.  It's a cheap piece of software, I would say just buy it.

I need to do a search on files and search for specific text inside the file. I know Windows search will do this, but then I want to be able to save to a text file so I can ream some people.
