I had the same thing happen.

I'm studying for MSCE exams, so I was loading 2000 server eval onto a
laptop at my home. Got the install done, installed the (cable modem)
network drivers, and started downloading 2000 Server SP2 from MS's web
site. I came back not more than 5 minutes later and I had a message box
displayed on the laptop from another cable user. The message said that my
system was totally open and already infected with code red!! The next
message box asked me to stop probing his system!

I was scanned, infected, and to boot had it pointed out to me by another
user while I was pouring coffee!!

Next time, Zone alarm goes on before I attach it to the cable network.

Last night I am building a test box for 2000 AD. I had to format a 2nd
drive to load AD and stuff. It was going to take a while so I left and
went
home. When I got in this morning, I had messages from other people saying
that they had got the code red. I hadn't even got to the updates yet.
What
a pain! So now I am rebuilding. Will other people please fix this. It is
such a pain, our logs are filled with hundreds of ip addresses trying to
infect us. We got spam abuse, why can't we have a place that puts people's
ip in for not fixing their virus problems!
