Well obviously he isn't going to find fault tolerance in a laptop, so
that is out of the question. What is he doing on this box?
I'm not familiar with the Compaq desktop series. Never been a big fan of
them.
But you may want to take a look at the Dell Precision WS series. I've
had one, and loved it. You can even get a RAID card for it if you
choose.

Subject: Compaq Evo Workstation W6000

Hey folks,

My old man runs his own business out of his home and he's looking to get
some new hardware. He currently runs all of his applications off of a 4
year old Toshiba laptop. He wants something that'll be robust, fast,
provide some level of fault tolerance, and be reliable. Most of my
experience is with Compaq so I'm starting with them.

The machine I'm looking at is a Compaq Evo Workstation W6000. Specs:
Intel Xeon 1.7Ghz (dual proc. capable), 512mb RDRAM/800, Integrated
Ultra160 SCSI Drive - (1) 18.2gb/15k Ultra 160 SCSI drive and (1) 18.2
WideUltra3 SCSI 15k, cd, nic, blah, blah, running Win2k Pro.

First, does anyone have any experience with this particular model? Likes
- Dislikes? Second, there's no option for an internal tape drive, so
what external models would you recommend? (to be safe, I'd go with tape
storage equal to the amount of disk space)

Thanks in advance for your suggestions, insight, warnings, etc...

Regards,
