My V.P. upgraded from IE5.01 to IE6.0 on his W2K SP1 system and could only
open a few pages on certain sites. The rest crash IE. One of them is a
yahoo finance page but even the default msn.com crashes, event log attached.
I installed SP2 in hopes of a quick fix and had read that reinstalling a
service pack would remove the ability to uninstall IE from Control
Panel-->Add/Remove Programs, but I didn't think the installation of a new
service pack would do that. In any event, it did. No IE uninstall from
Add/Remove Programs after installing SP2. So I ran the w2kexcp.exe /u and
it ran but stated that it did not remove it successfully. After that, the
icon that launches Add/Remove Programs would just blink when I
double-clicked on it. It will not launch anything. In addition he could
not open any email in Outlook 2000, but reregistering mlang.dll fixed that.

Do you guy's have any suggestions about how to uninstall IE6.0 at this point
or how to get it to stop crashing? The Event Logs (attached in .gif format)
point to a replication problem with AD but this is on an NT4.0 domain. Or
any idea on how to fix the icon for Add/Remove Programs would be great too.
Thought about trying sfc /purgecache and sfc /scannow but those take forever
to run and haven't tried it yet.

Here is the text of the event log:

The description for Event ID ( 1000 ) in Source ( Microsoft Internet
Explorer ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary
registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote
computer. The following information is part of the event: iexplore.exe,
6.0.2600.0, tracki~1.dll, 1.0.0.16, 00009b10.

Thanks for any help!
