We have a network with 3 Windows 2000 servers, 1 is a domain controller the others are just member servers. The client Pcs are mix of 95/ NT and 2000 The problem I have is intermittent and mainfests itself thus: If you are on one of the W2k member servers or desktop Pcs running W2k professional and you try for instance to add a domain user to a local group or change the security of one of the com+ components to a domain user you get the error "Processing of object <username> failed with the following error The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted." In all cases you are presented with the same dialog box which is titled Select User or Group and the top dropdown is labelled look in. If the list in here has 3 items (local machine name,Entire directory,Domain name) and you choose the domain and user it works OK. If the list only has 2 items (no Entire directory) you can still choose the user but when you click on OK you get the message mentioned above. If you then try again the look in drop down is greyed out and only has the name of the local machine. 15 minutes later on the same machine it will be back to normal. Any pointers as to what may cause this ? I can't see anything in the event logs for the local machine or domain controller. Regards Andy http://www.sunbelt-software.com/ntsysadmin_list_charter.htm
