if you workstation is in a workgroup or non trusted domain, when outlook
opens it will use the local machine / logged on username as the security
context. if that fails it'll give a password prompt.
if the username is the same as a valid domain or exchange user, it will add
one to the failed logon count for the domain user.
to turn off outlook using nt security (default) go to
tools->services->msexchange server->properties->advanced
at the bottom there's an option box for security, set it to none, and it'll
try with no security (and no increase in failure count), then it'll prompt
for a password instead of trying the local one first.
if the user and workstations are members of the same NT domain, I don't
know.
