Ron--there may be settings to disable the keyboard/mouse detection in the
pc's bios. In addition, I would look under the devices control panel in NT4
to change the boot options for this device to disabled/manual. Warning:
I've never personally purposely disabled the keyboard device in WinNT 4 and
can not guarantee your results. You'll probably want to try this on a test
box first and make sure you have an ERD ready if you're going to set it on
the server.

Subject: How do I disable i8042prt keyboard in Registry?
Have posted this once already and, surprisingly, have not had any feedback
whatsoever so here we go again. Does anyone out there have any idea as to
whether a registry change or other type of fix is known that will prevent
the following error from continuously re-appearing in the Event Viewer:
"Event ID: 26, Source: i8042prt..."Exceeded the allowable number of
retries (configurable via the Registry)"? Have found the registry entry
pertaining to this issue. (See
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\i8042prt\Parameters\Res
endIterations
REG_DWORD >= 0x1). Microsoft Article Q102989 contains related info.
I believe, this problem exists because there is basically no physical
keyboard attached to the device in question which is causing a hardware
operation to time out following polling, etc??? This NT4 server is being
accessed via RIB Board. Use of a KVM Switch is not possible...If disabling
the i8042prt driver is required, will this impact access via RIB Board
which BTW is working fine at this moment? If I can't prevent these error
messages from being logged, can I reduce the frequency or intervals
between each message to once a day, week, etc???
Thanks..Any help will be appreciated..Ron
