I would suspect the tape driver, have you checked to see if you have the latest for your OS?

Okay, I have mis-explanied...The backup is running on/from another server, the reboot occours then when the backupserver is going to take the backup of this server, 2-5 min. after starting it reboots.

Did I explain this good enough?

I'm no hardwware guru but as it happens when the backups start, is it possible to swap tape drives?

Which I still don't understand.
I have found out that 0x0000007f means something hardware error related, but I have other servers with precisly same configuration, same patches, same bios, same drivers etc. -The machine is a IBM 5500 M20, with ½gb ram, serverraid v. 4,70, and they don't reboot.

Any other ideas?

Check with Veritas for updates there are known issues with some ROC chips (Raid on Chip) controllers and certain machines - I have seen this random reboot occasionally.

You can load complete and kernel memory dumps with standard symbolic debuggers (such as I386kd.exe included with the Windows 2000 Support CD-ROM).

I have some trouble with a W2k server that reboots everynight, when the backup starts on it. (Backup Exec v. 8.5) I have the server fully patched up to date. It gives a entry in the eventlog:

Description:
The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck.  The bugcheck was: 0x0000007f (0x00000008, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000). Microsoft Windows 2000 [v15.2195]. A dump was saved in: C:\WINNT\Minidump\Mini092601-01.dmp.

Is it possible to read anything from the information in the above?
