ALL:
I got into a discussion with my overall boss this morning about
PowerDesk 4. He recently ordered us to install it on all machines that we
service and to remove WinZip. I opened the "My PowerDesk" shortcut this
morning and found out that the default has a shortcut for RegEdit on it's
launchbar. I brought that to my bosses attention and stated that I thought
that we need to try something else. By putting a shortcut there for
RegEdit, I feel that it opens our systems up for the user to go playing
around in the registry and do some heavy damage. The program is profile
aware, so deleting the icon under one user will not remove it from another.
While, I realize that users can run RegEdit from the run command, my point
was that a lot of our users usually do not run a program from the command
line and that RegEdit does not have an icon shortcut for it on the menus by
default. Has anyone had any problems with PowerDesk 4 or know of security
risks associated with it? Thanks,
