I use Wise 8.14 to distribute patches to stand-alone W2K Pro Workstations...
They all have a scheduled "c:\update\update.exe" that runs at midnight. The
autodial to the internet and disconnect when done. Update.exe downloads an
INI file listing all the available patches on my corp web server in the DMZ.
It compares that list against what it has locally in c:\update. If the file
doesn't exist locally it downloads the file and executes it, also writing a
log file to c:\update.
The INI is used so I don't have to send a new update.exe every time I have a
new patch (Wise package). I use Wise 8.14 to wrap all the patches so I can
control unattended install and add extra stuff like flag files, reg changes
and the such.
The patches sit on my web server at corporate
(http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/update), along witht the ini file. All I have to do
is add the new patch to the INI and drop the EXE in the web folder... By
the next day all the workstations have the patch...
The INI looks like this:
[Update]
update1.exe = 1.0.0.2
update2.exe = 1.0.0.1
update3.exe = 1.0.0.0
The "1.0.0.0" is the version of my package. I also check to see if the
package on the web server is newer than the local copy, if it is, I download
and install the new version of the package. The "versioning" is a feature
of Wise...
I have more features I wanna add, but this gets it done...

Subject: software/patch push to 9x clients
I have 2 win2k servers one for file and print and one for backup, ras
and anti-virus. I have approx 250 users spread across the County.
Visiting each and every pc is not the preferred method of software
Installs. I have been able to get an admin distro. of office 2k and
Script the install. MS made that easy but to push all of these MS
Patches and others I am looking for a way to push the install/setup to
each of the win9x clients with out expending large amounts of School
Districts monies to buy 3rd party solution. Like SMS and any of the
Other software distro app. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated
