If you want to learn a "desktop" linux, then by all means, learn Ubuntu! It's very user- friendly and easy to use. However, most servers, I think, are either running RedHat or Fedora. Since Fedora is basically a bleeding-edge version of RedHat, you might just say they're all but the same thing. So, long story short, if you want Desktop, go Ubuntu. If you want server, go Fedora. Eventually you'll probably want to at least familiarize yourself with Fedora/RedHat and especially the package manager.
