Usually you'll want to set the block size to 256kb and use multiple streams
(not sure if that's what Backup Exec calls them) to pull multiple sets of data
from the drives to the tape.

Subject: LTO-5 Throughput

I have a new backup system with Backup Exec 2010 R3 and a Quantum Autoloader
with an LTO-5 drive and SAS connection to the server. The backup server has
8GB RAM, 20TB DAS and captures our VDK's using Veam's latest release. We're
using tape to get the backups offsite until we have opportunity to get a
replication system in place. Total dataset is about 5TB.

I'm trying to maximize my throughput to the drive an am currently hitting about
7GB/min.
I have the drive config set as follows:

Block size: 64KB
Buffer size: 1MB
Buffer count: 20
High water: 5
Single block mode disabled for Read & Write
Read SCSI pass-through - unchecked
Write SCSI pass-through - checked

Any recommended tweaks to improve the drive performance further?

My long term goal is to string a bunch of short term goals together.
