Business accounts are trivial. At least here (Virginia, US). I wouldn't do
business without a business account.

So you use your personal credit card for business purchases? That is what I am
doing at the moment. Until I get more paying customers that are long term I
really don't want to want to go down the road of getting business accounts
setup. Even then I am thinking of using prepaid cards for purchases.

IIRC, the protetctions for business use of credit cards are the same as
consumer protection. I could be wrong, though. You're subject to a maximum of
$50 for fraudulent transactions, and generally that's waived. That being said,
as in all things, you have to be doing some basic bookkeeping. Reconcile your
accounts, ensure that every charge is appropriate, etc. It's amazing to me how
many people don't do this. I work for an accounting firm. I'm sure Ed can tell
similar stories.

Your name and address are essentially public information, not personal
information.

I seem to remember a while back a discussion on online purchasing and use of
prepaid cards for that purpose. Are any of you doing that or do you use a
regular credit card attached to your PII? I am just now starting to do online
purchasing for my consulting and really do not like the idea of having my cc #,
name and address stolen by hackers because some online company was a little
forgetful or not following best practices. FYI I don't do online banking at
all and unless I end up being forced to do so don't plan to change that.

If you are using a prepaid card which company do you use? Visa, MasterCard,
Amex, Discover, or some other?

Thanks a lot for your opinion on this,

Jon Harris
