Exactly, my general train of thought was... Ohhh HP has a new tablet now. What version of Android is it running? Huh, Web/O-What? Like you said, look at Playbook sales compared to IOS/Android. Blackberry already had an infrastructure of similar devices, market share and development compared to HP. And HP says "lets go with something totally different that everyone will have to start over with and few have even heard of". Sure we deal with users every day that wouldn't know the difference between and Android and apple tablet. But for the most part consumers who are going to drop $$ on a tablet tend to do a little comparison shopping and would figure out it doesn't run what all the other tablet in the world do. When the ads started for HP tablet my wife commented "that looks neat". I told her it doesn't run Android and her reply was "then why would anyone want it".

Then they screwed up by waiting too long to enter the market with a product that was not ready and lacked app support. As to the future of WebOS, who else would want it? The HP failure is a major black mark, whether earned or not, whether the OS is superior or not. The name of the game is apps. Without developer support and a large catalog of apps, buyers won't pay a competitive price for a device that may be slightly better in ways most users won't notice. I wonder how Playbook sales are doing at Blackberry and whether it can survive, for the same reasons.
