I wrote the utility, so if you do or don't like it, feel free to send feedback 
my way.  Please note that it will emit errors messages connecting to 2003--it 
really prefers 2008--but will still do it, slowly.  The old event log API is 
not too swift.

The commandline tool isn't suited for subscribing to live events (which is 
something we're rolling into a product with a neat web GUI, and which 
_requires_ 2008) but does a nice job of finding existing log entries.

I've never done this but I think creating a subscription for the specific error 
will work?  It should be able to fire off an email to you when that error 
occurs.  I believe it requires Windows Event Collector, wecutil.

Is there a free tool I can use to get notified when specific event log 
conditions occur? I can find and order inexpensive stuff easily enough, just
