You could also look at some of the MSP offerings, like proactive watch which give you full update control as well as monitoring servers for a few bucks per month . so you get added benefit.
If you use some of the bigger MSP's they actually lab test patches first and will auto-block any patches that have known issues with that particular server (exchange, sql, etc) so you really have a hands off approach to patch deployment.
