This is a common misconfiguration of Peter Gutmann's work. His paper was written a very long time ago and was correct for drives of the time. He has since updated his paper to reflect the changes/differences in more modern hard drives. I say this only because he is rightfully annoyed by guys like this Brian Smithson saying stuff like "Blame Gutmann".
