I always make the restore disks on a new laptop before doing anything to them.
Doing a repair from those, I am not sure would get me anywhere. I had not
thought of trying to install sp2 over it though. Might give it a shot when I
get back. The worst that will happen is restoring again.

Repair install with with SP2 installation CD should do something about it.
But haven't had your error nor tried this to get rid of it so YMMV.

Subject: Removing IE7 to install IE6

Bought some lenovo laptops that came with IE 7 installed on XP Pro. IE 7 will
not work with some pages that have to be accessed for the medical department.
Has to be IE 6. Attempted to remove IE 7 through add/remove which seemed to
work fine. I was expecting it to revert back to ver 6, but didin't. Tried
installing 6 but got an error saying, could not install 6 because a newer
version already exists. Attempted to reset the reg keys to show that IE 7 was
not installed, and removed any updates that I could tell had anything to do
with version 7. Still no luck. Still says a newer ver is installed. Then tried
using the /q switch on the IE 6 setup. Seemed to run and reboot. That did
nothing more than totally trash the system to a BSOD Stop error. Anyone know of
a way to get rid of 7 completely so I can install 6.

  Thanks

  Ken H.
