Bump?

Also can VBSCript be used to enumerate a user's group credentials and exit if
the user is a domain admin?

Actually I used ADUC to delegate description on computer objects which I assume
accomplishes the same thing (it's working doe non-DA's in my testing).

Brian you're right I do need to add error handling as well as some other logic,
as in "If server OS do not change description" or maybe "If server OS, append
to description" although I don't know how you could append PART of a
description and overwrite the rest unless I could perform on a delimiter. I
have descriptions on my servers I do not want completely overwritten each time.

Example:
Original AD Description "PowerEdge 1500 | SharePoint | Deployed 12/12/2009"
Description after login 1: "PowerEdge 1500 | SharePoint | Deployed 12/12/2009 -
Dave Lum 11-24-2011"
Description after login 2: "PowerEdge 1500 | SharePoint | Deployed 12/12/2009 -
Brian Desmond  11-24-2011"

I would be modifying anything after "-" in this case. You can do this with
VBSCript right? I am able to do it with KiX so I assume VBS can also do it

Our environment is reasonably small - 500 users. Not sure how it will work over
VPN either...

In ADUC, View>Advanced Features; Right click the OU, Properties, Security,
Advanced; Add; "Domain Users", switch to the properties tab, pick Descendent
Computer Objects, scroll down and tick the box for Allow Write Description.

Make sure you add some error handling so this doesn't pop up an error when it
breaks. I assume your environment is pretty small so it's not going to generate
noticeable churn.

Thanks,
Brian Desmond

You'll need to give uses the rights to modify that field on all computer
objects they might log into.

OOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooohhhh nice, totally overlooked the GPO potential on this
bad boy.

How are you running this?

I would create a GPO and link to the OU you have the computers in. Under the
user config assign this as a login script and also enable loopback processing
for the GPO so it is applied to users.

OK I'll try not to keep answering these myself, is there a way to make this
apply to just a specific OU? I would like it to NOT run in my OU with servers

Sub DoADDescription
    Dim ad, objUser, objComputer

    Set ad = CreateObject("ADSystemInfo")
    Set objUser = GetObject("LDAP://" & ad.UserName)
    Set objComputer = GetObject("LDAP://" & ad.ComputerName)

    strMessage = objUser.Department & ", " & objUser.CN & ", " & Day(Now()) &
"/" & month(now()) & "/" & right(year(now()),2)

    objComputer.Description = strMessage
    objComputer.SetInfo
End Sub

One of you guys has a VBS script to populate the "Description" field in AD with
the last logged in user but I have lost that little tidbit.....
