  I think that's likely just cluelessness on the part of the press
author.  Or maybe that's just what the current exploit code is
targeting.  Either way, there's no reason any kind of network-attached
printer shouldn't be vulnerable *in concept*.  A good implementation
with a proper config should be safe, but we all know how rare that is
in IT.

  A network-attached printer is just a computer with a printer wrapped
around it.  Ditto any other network-attached device.  These days, most
of them are running VxWorks or Linux internally, both of which are
full-blown operating systems capable of any general-purpose computing
task.
