An appliance for your home can mean many things? What do you currently have for your gateway? FWIW, I have OpenWRT with a openvpn server running at several locations reliably, some of which are used continuously through the day and night and never hiccup. I also have several pfSense appliances and a few RHEL servers running a server as well. Openvpn runs on just about anything...
