Ok so this is an oooold tip, but I just recently had a need for it.

Ever have a VM that when you assigned it an IP address it complained that (and
I am paraphrasing) "a hidden network device also has this IP address and if it
becomes active there will be a conflict" but when you go to device manager and
have it show hidden devices there's only one NIC listed? I see this usually
when I P2V a machine, but also moving a VM from one environment to another
(just copying the VHD's and using the copy to create a new VM) will generate
this as well. In any case, here's how you can remedy that little issue:

Add in your system environment variables the variable
 DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES
 set it's value to: 1
 reboot your machine
 goto your device manager
 show all hidden devices

Works for 2003 Server and later Windows OS's. Sweet!
