Thank you...

One would certainly think applying SP2 and keeping Auto Update downloading
patches would include this. Perhaps it does - I am beginning to wonder if our
scanning firm just tosses these "remedies" out pre-canned...

Example - one "remedy" is to apply KB2562485. Apparently, this is for DNS
servers only. None of the machines in question are (or should be!) DNS servers.

FUN!

That's MS09-48. It's normally packaged as an EXE or MSU (depending on the
Windows version). Not as a CAB.

Running Windows Update on Server 2003/2003R2 or applying SP2 on Server 2008
should include it.

Subject: .CAB file as a Microsoft systems patch

Greetings!

We have "been advised" to apply a certain patch to a couple of our servers
MIP'd out through our firewall. The patch in question is:

Windows6.0-KB967723-x86.cab

Now that I have it copied onto these servers, how does one actually apply a
"patch" which arrives as a .CAB file?

In "Explorer", the .CAB file "opens" by listing a lot of files with no
extensions (probably hidden in Win7) and Manifests.

Thanks!
