Unit and Integration Unit tests will normally test an internal component of the design - e.g. if you have configured various RAID arrays, then testing what happens when a disk fails (e.g. is pulled out), or if a NIC is disconnected (if you have NIC teaming).
Integration tests normally test that integration with other components of the design are working OK (e.g. SCCM can push a patch, or SCOM will generate an alert if CPU goes over 90% or 2FA authentication is working, AV can push an update to the client etc.) Generally doing all these tests is a PITA - setting up all the scenarios takes a long time, and then recording the results also takes time. On the other hand, it does mean you (generally) don't get random surprises later on (e.g. you can't deploy a critical security patch) for stuff that "should just work" Cheers Ken -----Original Message----- From: Ben Scott [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Wednesday, 25 January 2012 10:41 PM To: NT System Admin Issues Subject: Re: When it rains it pours... I know most of the other stuff (User Acceptance Test, Configuration Management Database, IT Service Management), even if %WORK% is mostly too small to need much of it, but "U&I" new on me, and Google isn't finding it. -- Ben On Wed, Jan 25, 2012 at 9:15 AM, Ken Schaefer <[email protected]> wrote: > New docs to write, architectural and security signoff, new U&I test > plans to write, new UAT plans to write, UAT certification, new > performance test, new equipment move requests, new IP addressing, new > cabling requests, new CMDB records, new failover tests, new DR tests, > new operations run books, new monitoring rules and responses, ITSM > error DB updates, blah, blah. ~ Finally, powerful endpoint security that ISN'T a resource hog! ~ ~ <http://www.sunbeltsoftware.com/Business/VIPRE-Enterprise/> ~ --- To manage subscriptions click here: http://lyris.sunbelt-software.com/read/my_forums/ or send an email to [email protected] with the body: unsubscribe ntsysadmin
