USB3 2.5" drives can be bus powered - no need for a separate power cable. eSata requires separate power supply unless you have an eSataP ports (looks like a port that has a combination of eSata and USB connectors in the one port)
The Sony laptop I have has a USB3.0 port, but no eSata/eSataP ports. I'm also finding that enclosures with a USB 3.0 port are much easier to find than enclosures that have an eSataP port (I do have one, but I had to import it from the US). If it has eSata + USB, you still need to run two cables between your laptop and the enclosure.
