Many of you have probably read about the new Skydrive:-

es_2c00_-pcs-and-devices-to-the-cloud-with-skydrive-and-windows-8.aspx

It will be a key component of Windows 8 and a desktop version will be made
available for Windows 7 and Vista.

>From a consumer point of view this is fantastic. I've been using Skydrive
in combination with Windows Live Mesh for a while now and it has made
accessing the same files across multiple PC's very easy. Having Skydrive
finally built into Explorer will be welcomed by many but it will also be
built into Win 8 Metro apps, Office and eventually everything else.

How will business handle this though? Just turn it off? We really need a
business equivalent. Ultimately it would be great if you could configure
Skydrive to point to a business's private cloud storage but I don't see this
happening any time soon. Dropbox and similar services have been around for
some time but in Windows 8, Skydrive will be right there, in everything, no
further app installs required. Users will become used to it and they will
want it for their work files too, or they will just start storing work files
in their personal Skydrive.

It's not a new problem but many users don't know about Dropbox and the like
now so it isn't currently a big problem. With Win8 it will become a big
problem.

Whilst there is Direct Access and vpn's etc the simplicity and features of
Skydrive make it superior for centralised file storage imo.

In the business world, how will you handle this?

James.
