All,

I'm trying to find a client-monitoring solution (similar to something like Apple Remote Desktop) that would work for monitoring PCs and Mac clients (would prefer it RUNS on PC, but could run on a Mac instead).

What I need it to do:

1. Show thumbnails of labs of Mac and PC desktops in close to real-time (yes - for monitoring what students are doing).
2. Show who is logged in.
3. Take screen shots.
4. Allow remote control when needed, and the ability to lock the user out if needed.
5. Is less than, say, $800 per admin for unlimited clients.

Now, from my research, it seems like something VNC-based is going to be the only possible cross-platform solution, so I've been testing these two:

1. Apple Remote Desktop
This program works beautifully, and can observe and control PCs with any flavor of VNC installed, BUT doesn't show who is logged into PCs (big drawback).

2. The VNC Manager (http://www.s-code.com/)
This is the closest to ARD for PC I have ever come across, BUT it tends to be slow, and can crash when dealing with Macs. Also HAS ANYONE HEARD OF THESE GUYS? They seem a little sketchy in the reputation department. On the plus side, it's cheap - $80 per admin.

I checked out NetOp http://www.netop.com, but they don't seem to want to email me a price (they haven't responded to two emails from myself and a coworker - anyone know this product or how much it runs?)

Any other suggestions for solutions?

Thanks!

Bret
