This is not doable in 2008R2.

Thanks,

Subject: Hyper-V on SMB share?

Hey all.

I'm playing with Windows Server "8" beta. One of the mentioned features is the
ability to have your VMs stored on a SMB share. They say this means you can
have high-availability without depending on a traditional iSCSI style SAN.

So, I tried it. It works! I have a Server 8 Hyper-V VM running off of a Windows
Server 2008 SMB share for both the VM files and the hard disks!

But this made me wonder: Can you do this with the Hyper-V on Server 2008 R2? Or
is that a big "no-no", only supported in the new version?
