I usually only use the manufacturer's drivers. I don't even allow WSUS to pull the drivers from Microsoft. If I want/need drivers updated I much prefer to do them manually until I am sure they will not blow up. That said once the hardware is about 5 to 10 years old I use the Microsoft drivers. Some times it is just too hard to find the drivers on the manufacturer's site for those. I have had at a previous job kept hardware in production for 10 to 15 years or until it finally gave up the ghost and I could not get replacement parts. I used to have a locked room filled with old machines. Management refused to purchase unless they were forced to due to either hardware or software issues.
