DHCP perhaps, I go there to find systems on my LAN I can't normally see.

Nmap and ntop are also options, if you want to see who's habitating on your 
subnets (and you have permission to run it).  You can also capture a lot of 
identifying information at the router, or do some scripting with the data in AD 
+ WMI...
