ITIL, TOGAF, CISSP are all examples of very broad certifications - they do exist

Certs are good for people who do 1 small job.
For those people, you can spend time to recertify your 1 certification every 3 
years.
For people who do dozens of things, certs are kind of ridiculous.

I could spend 2000 hours a year just RENEWING the certifications on everything 
I support.
