Subject: SBS swing 2 -done!

Last night I tore down TEMPDC and activated the SBS2011 server in my biggest
SBS swing project as it is COMPLETE! Safe to say I’m pretty comfortable with
ripping DC’s out, not that I want to do such a thing with any regularity!

I can certainly say that an SBS swing is an interesting project to undertake.
In both swings I went from login script drive mappings to GPO-driven ones. The
biggest issues (such as they were) came from the other changes made at the same
time. In my first swing they upgraded their A/R software at the same time! This
required installing a new client piece on each PC. Client #2 has two
file/print servers in addition to the SBS box (maybe unusual for an SBS shop?)
and I moved the Police/Fire dept off the SBS server onto their one file server
(they’re 24/7 so I want to decouple the SBS server reboots from their access to
files and printers) and I wasn’t perfect at migrating the user settings/files.
I was *CLOSE* though J.

As we know, there are a lot of moving parts in an AD/Exchange environment, and
no way to convey the complexity to non-tech’s. All we can do is smile, say
“small technical issue” and resolve it ASAP.

WHEW!!! I get to go back to normal moonlighting hours!
