I'm pretty specialised and it doesn't make things difficult for me. I mean, I can do other things - I was writing batch scripts for a client today, of all things - but they employ me mainly for my specialised knowledge and other stuff is a bonus. That said, knowing core stuff like AD is pretty much expected, but I guess that's got to be expected in more or less any IT job these days.

I don't disagree with what was said, necessarily, except that it doesn't necessarily apply to all forms of IT consulting. Certainly, you can specialize in IT consulting and be quite successful. * * *ASB* *http://XeeMe.com/AndrewBaker* *Harnessing the Advantages of Technology for the SMB market… * On Mon, Jul 2, 2012 at 11:23 AM, Don Kuhlman <[email protected]> wrote: > Here's another take on the independent consulting thread we had going > before - > > "10 things I wish I'd known before becoming an IT consultant" > > > http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/10things/10-things-i-wish-id-known-before-becoming-an-it-consultant/3313?tag=nl.e101 > > Don K > > > ~ Finally, powerful endpoint security that ISN'T a resource hog! ~ ~ <http://www.sunbeltsoftware.com/Business/VIPRE-Enterprise/> ~ --- To manage subscriptions click here: http://lyris.sunbelt-software.com/read/my_forums/ or send an email to [email protected] with the body: unsubscribe ntsysadmin ~ Finally, powerful endpoint security that ISN'T a resource hog! ~ ~ <http://www.sunbeltsoftware.com/Business/VIPRE-Enterprise/> ~ --- To manage subscriptions click here: http://lyris.sunbelt-software.com/read/my_forums/ or send an email to [email protected] with the body: unsubscribe ntsysadmin
