Leaves the door open for future promotions i.e. "keyboard now included for
free" which they would much prefer to do rather than admit early defeat by
reducing the price.

The price allows their OEMs to easily undercut them, which helps smooth out
any bad feelings over MS competing for the hardware business. And no
executive wants to be seen toting around a cheap tablet. Let the rank and
file use Acers!

It's clear.keyboard is extra.

"Both versions will both include a Surface pen with Palm Block technology
and include the ability to use a Touch Cover or Type Cover (sold
separately)."

I was under the impression that it included the touch keyboard, just like
RT.

But it isn't clear from the announcement or the website.

The price is basically iPad + Windows Pro. It's higher than I wanted, but I
am not surprised.

This is my take on it:

http://myitforum.com/myitforumwp/2012/11/29/microsoft-surface-with-windows-8
-pro-gets-official-pricing-and-january-2013-availability/

However, I'd be interested in your take on it. Is it priced right?
