I don't see any payoff to adding Samba that way, either. But that doesn't mean it's not useful. New deployments and lab environments come to mind. I also wonder if Samba could be deployed as a read-only DC. That might be useful for satellite offices, for example. Above all, though, if a place doesn't have any 'nix experience (and doesn't have any interest in acquiring same), it'd almost certainly be a bad idea.
