I just downloaded LibreOffice 4 this morning, and I've been playing with it on various word documents... Thus far, it's very good. Even the stupid timesheet document (that should have been a spreadsheet) with all it's fancy frames and formatting renders correctly.
Open source software will never replace proprietary software.
