If you think you can fit all your VMs onto a 256GB drive, then getting a 512GB would be a waste of money. In another year or two they'll be cheaper again and you can re-buy if you need more space down the track. However, if you need >256GB now, then I think $350 is a bargain for the space & performance you get. I suppose it depends on what your time is worth to you. FWIW I paid about $500 for mine ~15 months ago.
