  There's no special hardware for SATA that I'm aware of.  The RAID
features (vs just a plain old disk controller) require a daughter
card, but it sounds like you have that.

  I have a memory fragment telling me that if you have even one SATA
disks on the backplane, the whole card reverts to SATA mode, but I'm
not sure on that.
