  Be aware that if you force Ethernet link settings (speed, duplex,
flow control), that has a tendency to inhibit auto-negotiation.  So if
you're going to be forcing things, make sure you force the setting *on
both ends*.  Otherwise, instead of making things better, it can make
things a good deal worse.

  When it comes to Cisco, I fall into the category of "knows just
enough to be dangerous", but: I think "show port" or "show interface"
will get you there.  Type a question mark (?) before you hit enter and
it will give you help.
