When connecting to a non-windows-2008 server, no. The old "console session"
disappears with server 2008.

I've always edited the MSTSC file in notepad and added "connect to
console:i:1", any change with that?

Thx,

I just found out the revised rdp client in SP1 modifies MSTSC

in the past if you wanted to connect to the console session, you passed a
/console flag.

Well with SP1 they have changed that to an "admin" session which requires a
/admin flag.
