The VM doesn't know the difference, however, the virtualization overhead of
VMware server is higher. I think it is around

15 percent for VMware server and around 5 percent for ESX.

ESX doesn't seem to have as many application hangs and odd errors, the free
version is a little twitchy when you've got multiple servers running.

Other than that I can't see any way to tell, the underlying host is
generally invisible to the guest

Lo chaps,

Anyone here use both ESX and GSX (VMWare Server Free) for hosted windows
based VMs ? If so, can you tell me if there are any visible differences
between VM's running on both from the point of view of an RDP user accessing
the VM's ? Basically, I mean, if you logged on to a Windows VM running on
ESX server (assume the VM Tools are installed) would you *know* it was ESX
rather than VMWare Server Free ?
