Just call Microsoft and tell them what the deal is. They'll let you activate it again.

Believe it or not, they are pretty reasonable.

Subject: vmware image and Dell oem SBS

Good afternoon everyone, I have had the worst couple of days in IT land.  We have a Dell server that is dead.  I won't go into the gross details but it is enough to say that I am not happy with Dell these days.

Because this server is dead, I am trying to take the vmware image I have of this SBS server and mount it on another box.  The only issue is that it wants me to activate SBS again, and won't let me log in until it is activated.  I have done some reading about this and it looks like this is something that Microsoft has built in when the hardware changes.

Is there a way to get around this?  Has anyone else run into this scenario?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Jonathan
