Oh, I think you should go with FreeBSD, running on Power processors.
NFS, or even better AFS would work really well.

That way you'll have a truly heterogeneous environment.

That's a joke, for those of you who've been stressed too much by the
Late Unpleasantness.

Stick with what you know for the servers. They'll do fine.
