Hmm, I'm a brand newly minted everyday Vista user as of last week (new
laptop, woohoo) (and this is my first posting from OL 2007).

I'll assume you have checked the box for "show processes from all users".
It's a bit of a trick to get taskmgr to startup automatically in elevated
mode so that all tasks are displayed. I poked around and I can get you 3
different numbers for RAM usage for any given process!

1. The regular Task Manager column "Memory (Private Working Set)

2. The Task Manager Commit Size (must add this column with View, Select
Columns)

3. The number reported by tasklist

For example, I show audiodg.exe at 7,640K for PWS, 18,108K for Commit Size,
and 12,148K from tasklist.

I know what PWS and Commit Size are, but I have no clue what tasklist is
reporting.

At least tasklist gives you some text that can be imported into Excel for
easy addition.

Subject: Vista SP1 ram usage

Running Vista SP1 (I forget if rc or release offhand) my memory usage is way
high. I started getting 'close programs' to reduce memory messages. Im using
about 1.3gb of ram after a reboot and a couple hours of usage. If I goto
taskmgr and manually add all the ram in use Im at about 450megs, the box is
reporting 1.2gb of ram in use. Obviously not even close. Whats out there
that will help me find whats using memory that's hidden from taskmgr or is
there a better way to get a more accurate assessment of what is in use so I
can turn it off.

Thanks
