There used to be an option in the 8.x days of BUE for handling a server with millions of small files. The idea was to backup the images (or whatever that data was) as blocks of data and then backup the metadata separately. This would be faster than grabbing each file individually. I don't see that option in newer versions and was wondering if it was rolled into another option like ADBO or was simply handled by the regular agent.

I need to handle about 35 million files. If everything works as planned (we're testing now) I would only need to make an initial pass on those 35 million files and then the remaining backups going forward would be incremental. I would build synthetic backups on the backend disk and dupe the synthetics to tape.

Anyone have any insight into this? How are you handling millions of files with BUE?

TIA- Jeremy
